A Responsible Lodge
• The lodge has been built using as much as possible local materials, with a design which is integrated in the environment

• We search for and use energy-efficient mechanisms such as ram pump, hot water geyser, economic wood cooker and solar panels

• We are in partnership with Fanamby (a Malagasy Conservation NGO), for fauna and flora inventory and updated interpretation panels

• Workers from the local community have been hired for the construction and for the periodical maintenance

• The lodge selected, hired and trained only staff coming from

We are promoting the sale of local handicrafts and food products in our boutique, we use the same handicraft in the lodge and we serve local food and drinks in our restaurant
• We built a public school for the community and support it with school materials.

• We are in partnership with Graines de Bitume (a Franco-Malagasy NGO) for example : distribution of school material to our children offered by Planet Urgence (another French NGO), and for receiving their street children in our lodge for an internship within their professional training.

Excursion

We propose a wide range of excursions, from easy walk to difficult hikes, from 45 minutes to several hours. We can go througt the forest or visit the villages and the school. You can discover the surroundings through our signposted paths or ask for a guided excursion.

Anjozorobe forest is one of the last vestiges of primary forest of the Malagasy highlands: A Darwin’s promised land, home to 11 species of lemurs, 82 species of birds, and many more strange endemic reptiles and amphibians that can only be found in Madagascar; Over 100 species of plants amongst which rare and wild orchids.

MANANARA LODGE is located in Anjozorobe primary forest, 100km north of capital Antananarivo. The road is good and tarred till Anjozorobe village; for the last 10km which lead you to the lodge amidst the forest, you will need a 4WD or we can provide transportation from Anjozorobe to our lodge. Beautiful highlands’ countryside, paddy fields and small merina villages all the way!

The Lodge

MANANARA LODGE offers a exclusive forest experience with all comforts: only 5 tented bungalows (2 doubles and 3 twins) tucked in the forest, all with bathroom (shower, bathtub & hot water), a chimney, kingsize bed or twin beds, electricity (evenings & mornings) and a terrace with view on the forest. A Malagasy and European restaurant, where you can enjoy meals by the cosy chimney fire or one the terrace. A unique silence, we are far far away from civilization, roads, people… A silence only broken by the Indris’ calls.
